Marshall Music is a HORRIBLE place to go for Music help!!
This week my 10 year old son and I went to Marshall Music in Torrance California as he is very interested in learning instrumental music next year in school. We arrived at the store and there were 3 people working in the place and nobody else except us were there. None of them said hello to my son and I as we browsed around for 15 minutes checking out instruments , a bunch of older models hanging on the wall like a trombone, saxophone, clarinet, flute, piccolo all without mouth pieces or reeds or the ability to try them and play them My son has some ideas of what he wants to play but really would like to try them to see if he has a fitted interest.. None of the 3 MM workers came over to ask if we wanted some help at any time. I finally had to peal away a large round women who was sitting at her computer, God knows doing what? But not caring that 2 human beings were in her store. I finally interrupted and asked if she could show us some instruments and if my son could play some of them to see what he would possibly like. She said abruptly “NO! we don't do that here” I asked again it is possible since he is interested in playing an instrument in the upcoming school year .. she said “No its not possible” . I then asked is there any one who could help us out to explore this possibility? Again a stern “No! We don't do that here!.” I shared how unfortunate this is and the fact that I was in schools in Torrance during my childhood and we (my parents) bought two trumpets from them for me over the years and god knows countless supplies Also I am aware of the fact that trying musical instrument was a vital factor in getting acquainted to such an art. The Big Girl Just Stared Cold and said "I'm sorry we cant help you" I asked where we could go she gave no answer I have in fact been in Marshall Music many times in my years as I have been involved in musical shows and school functions and have shopped there many times My son has seen in his early years over 30 musical professional plays and concerts as I have introduced him to the world of art and music However I was dismayed by this woman s ice cold and inflexible attitude. It was real turnoff its seems by there web site she is possibly the owner … sad news for this company. She turned and went back to her bons bons and computer games!! This is certainly not the Marshall Music service or experience I remember from the old days in fact it was horrible. Frankly Crappy business manners!!! We were the only ones in the store other than the 3 people and some lessons behind closed doors going on in the back rooms which was a non factor My son and I still undiscouraged browsed around and I'd hoped she might rethink her position but did not we played the piano and made some noise as my son kept asking about each instrument, that was laying around percussion pieces I did quite well having played the trumpet and piano for 15 years in high school and on and off over the past 15 years into my years I could easily show my some what was out but there were no mouthpiece for the french horn the trombone and the sax and clarinet We were so loud and over the top yet still no one came over to help us or try to offer assistance. As we went to leave the store we stopped off at another women who was at the door desk and I asked her where is it we could go to find musical instruments in the area an she said "No where, we are the only ones that I Know of “... when I asked in the LA Area? she said “She didn't know”... then abruptly screamed at my 10 year son "You have to buy that. Baffled at the screaming I looked and he had a plastic tonette flute in his hands and like every thing else he was eager to try it a had started to taste the goods. She screamed again “You must buy that right now” My son obviously startled and scared by this woman's immature and hostile behavior he put it back into the package and box. She screamed again don't put it in there other people will get your germs can't you read the sign which was 10 feet over away from the baskets this flute was sitting. At this point I put my foot down and asked... What kind of operation you guys running here? What happened to the old Marshal Music who was about the customer and getting young people into instruments so far you have insulted mt you've basically ignored our visiting your store and my son who is a young mind then Miss round lady chimed in do you want to hear the Short version or the long version … I replied...”No I want to know who we can see who wants to show my son some instruments who would I see she began to explain that she simply could no accommodate every person who comes into their store of our request plus they would have to clean the instruments Blah blah blah .. She threw up excuse after excuse why she did not or would not help us out we stood there and waited to see if she would set us up with some who would … it never came We are DONE your arrogance and rudeness is enough!
